Ricky Gervais suffers from a chronic aging disease. Even though he looks like a middle aged man he is in fact only 6 years old. This explains the tantrums, the constant showing off, the screaming and his unique ability to be annoying. In between collecting awards Ricky goes round schools promoting bullying and has won high praise from the National Society of Bastards. The picture on the left shows his reaction when told that one of his best friends had jumped off a bridge due to his constant harrassement.

The Real Ricky Gervais

Ricky Gervais was born on 25 June 1961 in Reading. The youngest of four children he comes from a working class family and grew up on a council estate. After leaving school he became a student at University College London where he graduated with a degree in philosophy in 1983. It was here he met his long term girlfriend Jane Fallon.

In 1983 he formed a new romantic band called Seona Dancing with his friend Bill Marcus. They were signed up by London Records and released two singles. Unfortunately both were unsuccessful and the band split up shortly after.

In the early 1990’s he worked as event manager at University College London Union. During this time he helped the band Suede gain recognition but was later sacked by them when they took on a full time manager.

In 1997 he was made Head of Speech at London radio station XFM. He insisted he have an assistant and apparently Stephen Merchant was the first person he interviewed to whom he gave the job.

He stayed on at XFM until late 1998 before being made redundant. The same year he and Merchant made a comedy pilot for television about a manager going through a mid life crisis which ultimately led to “The Office”.

In 1999 Ricky’s big break in television came on Channel 4’s satirical comedy programme “The 11 o’clock Show”. The same show where Ali G came to fame. He appeared in short comedy segments which led to him being given his own series “Meet Ricky Gervais” which wasn't well received and had poor ratings.

During this time Gervais and Merchant co-wrote “The Office” which was commissioned by the BBC in 2000. Not only was he the star he also co-directed alongside Merchant. “The Office” was aired on the BBC in 2001 and went on to win many awards not only in the UK but also in America.

The pair went on to make a second series of “The Office” which was equally well received. Ricky’s growing reputation allowed him to attract big Hollywood stars to his new project, “Extras”. Both Ben Stiller and Sam Jackson made cameo appearances in the series which followed the misfortunes of struggling actor Andy Millman, played by Gervais.

In 2003 he tried his hand at stand up with  “Animals” and a year later “Politics”. Both were very well received and in 2007 his third stand up  “Fame” became the quickest selling tour in history.

He has also appeared in several films including “One night at the museum”, “For your consideration” and “Stardust. If all that wasn’t enough he has released a series of children’s books called “Flanimals”. Oh and lets not forget the most successful podcasts ever.
